Failed BIG? My Playbook for Bouncing Back Stronger Than Ever!

I’ve been able to get a lot of special time in with my daughter Zoe and it’s made my heart extremely happy!!

Failed Big? Good. Now Let’s Get Moving.

Shannon’s May update

I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, and I can’t stop thinking about a big opportunity I swung for and missed a few months ago. One of those life-changing, heart-on-the-line chances that I poured my time, effort, and passion into for over a year. I wanted it badly. And when it all fell apart, it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I know you know what I’m talking about – that gut-punch of disappointment, replaying every move, second-guessing every decision, and wondering, “What the heck went wrong?” It’s a brutal place to be, especially when you were so sure it was going to work.

But if I’m being real, alongside the heartbreak, I also felt a hint of relief. Deep down, I knew that some of the decisions I made weren’t in line with my core values. I would have had to make a huge investment, both financially and in time away from my family. And honestly, that’s just not me.

So, as I wiped away the tears (way more than I’m willing to admit), I reminded myself that just because the stars didn’t align, it doesn’t mean the sky’s falling. It just means it’s time to find a new constellation.

After a week of moping around and feeling sorry for myself, I got back at it. I took a fresh look at the opportunity, found a different path, and started moving forward – this time in a way that better aligns with my core values, is a smarter financial move, and, most importantly, doesn’t take time away from my family. It’s working. It feels right.

Here’s the truth: You’re not going to win every pitch, land every client, or close every deal – even when you’ve done all the right prep, made the connections, and delivered a killer presentation. Sometimes the outcome doesn’t match the effort, and that’s okay. It’s all part of the process.

As an Olympian with two Olympic medals, I’ve got to tell you: I lost a whole lot more than I won. But those losses? They’re what gave me the grit, the fire, and the guts to keep going for gold, day in and day out.

Here’s My Playbook for Bouncing Back Stronger

  1.  Extract the Lesson: What did this teach me? Was I true to my values? Did I stay on target, or did I get sidetracked by the noise? What’s one thing I can do differently next time?

  2.  Refocus: Do I try again, do I pivot, or do I move on to something else? What’s the next right move?

  3. Get Going: Standing still isn’t an option. Don’t wait for the stars to align – you’ve got to get back up and make it happen!

Remember, some setbacks are actually redirections. Some losses clear the path for something even better. And every time a door closes, you’ve got the chance to kick open a different one – the one that actually leads where you need to go.

So, if you’ve had a major disappointment lately, I see you. Feel it, learn from it, and then get back in the game. Because trust me, the next move might just be the one that changes everything.

Quote of the Month

Even if you’re not where you want to be, know that you are exactly where you’re meant to be to get there!”

3 Core Values I Live By

  • Honesty. I believe in being real – with myself, with others, and in everything I do.

  • Grit.  It’s that unbreakable, never-quit spirit that pushes me to keep going, even when the odds are stacked against me.

  • Adventure.  Life is one big, wild, unpredictable ride, and I’m here for it.
