Small Tweaks, Big Wins: A Reflection on 2024 Goals 🌟

Shannon’s January update

So here we are, nearing the end of January, and I want to check in with you about your New Year’s Resolution(s). I’m not one that is big on New Year's resolutions; however, I am doing Dry January, and I’m NAILING IT!!!! I think sometimes it’s really good for us to test our resolve and prove to ourselves that even though we want something, we have the ability to say no. I’ve also tried to think of the New Year as something different than "New Year, New Me" - because, quite frankly, I really like me! I just want to make small tweaks and establish new habits that will have a compounding effect over time. Are there goals that I want to accomplish? Yes. Are there bad habits I need to break? Sure. Do I want to change some of the processes in my life? Absolutely. But overall, I’m proud of the direction I am heading and the work I’m putting in!

So for everyone who’s still on course to keeping your New Year's Resolution, congratulations and keep going; you’ve got this!! For the rest of you, here are a few different ways I like to start a new “something,” whether it be a New Year, a new project, a new goal, or a new season in my life:

  1. Choose a word to define your year. Sometimes a single word can be your North Star when making decisions and saying YES to your important tasks and NO to things that don’t align with your “word” and vision. My word for 2024 is “FUN.” This enables me to say yes to the things that are fun in my business, family adventures, and in how I exercise and stay fit. For you, it may be purpose, soul, adventure, focus, balance, present, etc. Whatever you choose, let it resonate deep in your soul and allow it to guide your decisions this year.

  2. Make one new healthy habit every quarter. Habits are hard to create, but if you commit to making just one small habit each quarter, you will be able to make a massive difference over time. For instance, this quarter I have re-committed to my meditation and visualization practice. And to reinforce this habit, I habit-stack it on top of something I already do. Every morning my alarm goes off, and now when my alarm goes off, I immediately put in my earphones and go through a guided meditation and visualization session.

  3. Claim your identity and decide on what it is you want this year! Turn your goals into actually becoming that person. For example, instead of having a goal of writing a book, your “identity” that goes along with that is to “be an author.” Instead of “landing 24 new accounts,” your identity is “top salesperson in my company”. Research has shown that when you actually see yourself as the person you want to become, you will make the important decisions, create the good habits needed, and prioritize what is necessary to become that person. And even better news is that as a part of that process, you will accomplish your goals along the way.

I hope this may serve as a bit of inspiration for those of us who are ‘New Year's resolution challenged’ but still wanting to accomplish big things in 2024! Sometimes we just need to reframe our situation or look at it from a new perspective. Remember, it’s not the one big enormous goal we decide to make; it’s the commitment to keep doing the smaller habits over time that matters most.

Unlock the FUN at your next event!

Even though winter is in full swing, I am booking up fast for summer keynote speeches. I have a lot of “FUN” on the books, so if you are thinking about an event (sales kickoff, leadership retreat, or an appreciation trip for your top performers) and need an energetic and relatable speaker, let me know here so I can make sure you’re on the top of the list.

Until then, I will have the powder flu, and the only way to cure it is to ski as much powder as possible at Deer Valley Resort!

Ski ya later!

-Shannon :)
