Rampage 2025: Lessons LEARNED…

Shannon’s October Update

I just got back from one of my favorite events of the year — Red Bull Rampage — down in southern Utah.

If you know me, you know I love watching (and being surrounded by) the best of the best doing their thing. Mountain biking has always been one of my favorite sports… but what these athletes are doing out there? I can’t even imagine doing on skis, let alone a bike. It’s absolutely mind-blowing.

But this year felt different. The level of risk was through the roof.

Four athletes were airlifted out during training and competition — and one is now paralyzed from the chest down. Standing there with my kids, watching that unfold, it was heartbreaking. And it made me stop and ask myself: All for what?

It got me thinking about what we risk and sacrifice in pursuit of our goals.

Most of us aren’t launching off 50-foot cliffs, but we are making trade-offs every day — sacrificing health for work, family time for deadlines, sleep for success. It’s so easy to get swept up in chasing the “next big thing” that we forget to ask:

Is the way I’m chasing this goal in line with what I truly value?

So this month, I’m challenging all of us (myself included) to take inventory of our lives — to look at what we’re working toward and how we’re getting there.

🧭 The 4-Step Life Inventory Check

1. Pause and Reflect.
Slow down enough to take an honest look at where your time and energy are going. Does your daily focus line up with what actually matters most — family, health, joy, purpose?

2. Assess the Trade-Offs.
Every goal has a cost. What are you giving up to get where you’re going? Are those sacrifices sustainable — and worth it — long-term?

3. Realign Your Priorities.
Reconnect with your values. Maybe it’s more presence with your family, better boundaries around work, or making time for creativity and adventure. What needs to move up your list?

4. Take Action — One Small Step.
Change doesn’t have to be massive. Pick one area that feels out of balance and take a small, intentional step this week. Tiny shifts lead to big transformation.

I’m taking that same inward look myself — asking hard questions and making sure my goals are still pointing in the right direction.

We only get one life. And I want to look back knowing I spent mine in alignment with what truly mattered.

We’ll keep going to Red Bull Rampage, cheering on those incredible athletes redefining what’s possible on two wheels. I just hope they — and all of us — keep pushing limits with purpose, passion, and a little more mindfulness along the way.

Quote of the Month

"The heart of human excellence often begins to beat when you discover a pursuit that absorbs you, frees you, challenges you, or gives you a sense of meaning, joy, or passion.”
