Summer Was Fun. Now Where Did I Put My Goals?
Never a dull moment with this crew.
Sunscreen, Chaos & Getting My Life Together
Shannon’s July Update
Wowza, this summer has been a wild one! I’m not sure about all of you, but summer is my absolute favorite time of year. It is also the most exhausting, schedule-out-the-window kind of chaos.
A friend told me a few years ago that we get only 18 summers with our children before they grow up and begin building lives of their own. That stuck with me: make the memories, create the traditions, take the trip, go to the pool, stay up too late. Don’t waste it.
This summer, we’ve squeezed out every last drop of fun! We’ve packed in weekend adventures, reconnected with friends we haven’t seen in more than a decade, gone through more tubes of sunscreen than I can count, and laughed until our stomachs hurt. The kind of laughter that comes from true, genuine happiness.
My kiddos are at the perfect ages. They are old enough to do almost anything, they still love hanging out with me, they still think I’m funny, and they "mostly" want me around. But I can already feel how fleeting this season is. Next summer will be different because every summer is. So, I’m holding on tightly for these final two weeks before they return to school on August 12!
As I look ahead to quieter days and a little more structure, I can also feel another part of me waking back up. It is time to recommit.
Amazing things are happening with Champions Advantage and Team Empower Hour, but over the past few months, I’ve often felt like I was doing just enough to keep everything afloat. That doesn’t always feel great in my entrepreneurial soul. I love building, creating, dreaming big, and chasing the next breakthrough.
But when I think about the choice between getting one more thing done and making a memory with my family, my family wins. Every time.
Now, however, I’m ready to begin finding my rhythm again. In many ways, this late-summer reset feels even more powerful than January 1. There is no pressure to completely reinvent myself. I simply need to remember what matters, reconnect with where I’m going, and recommit to the actions that will get me there. I love knowing that today’s effort is moving me closer to something meaningful that lights my fire!
Are you feeling it…?
Maybe you’re feeling it too. You’ve had an amazing summer, and it isn’t over yet, but you can feel the need to bring a little order back to the chaos. You’re ready to dust off your goals, rebuild a few good habits, and begin moving forward again.
Here Are 4 Small But Meaningful Steps To Take Today
1. Choose your most important goal. What is the one thing you most want to accomplish before the end of the year? Not five things. Not your entire to-do list. What matters most?
2. Take an honest inventory. How far have you already come? Celebrate that progress. Then identify what is still left to do and what will be required to get there.
3. Choose one daily non-negotiable. What is the single action you can take consistently that will move you closer to your goal? Put it on your calendar. Protect the time. Make it small enough to repeat, but meaningful enough to matter.
4. Give yourself some grace. Pause. Take a deep breath. You do not need to transform your entire life overnight. Even during the final stretch of summer chaos, you can begin taking small steps in the right direction.
I will still take my kids to the pool a few more times. I will say yes to the adventures, another late night, and a few more core memories. Getting completely back on track may not happen today or tomorrow, but I know it will happen soon. For now, that is good enough.
Our time here on earth is far too short to take any of it for granted. We need to squeeze out the fun, soak up the memories, laugh loudly, and be fully present with the people we love. We also have dreams to chase, work to do, bills to pay, and goals that deserve our effort.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Enjoy the last drops of summer. Then choose your goal, find your one daily non-negotiable, and begin again.
I believe in you. You’ve got this!
“I don’t sweat in summer, I sparkle.”
